TYPE OF RICE

There are many varieties of rice found across the globe however for convenience we can segregate them in below mentioned varieties.
long-grain

LONG GRAIN RICE

Long-grain rice is about four or five times as long as it is wide and length varies between 7 to 9 millimeters.

medium-grain

MEDIUM GRAIN RICE

Medium grain rice is about three times as long as it is wide and length varies between 4 to 7 millimeters.

small-grain

SHORT GRAIN RICE

Short grain rice is less than twice as long as it is wide. It is fat & round grains that are higher in starch.

FORM OF RICE

Brown Rice

Brown: Generally known as milled or Brown Rice, this variety of rice is produced when the outer husk remain intact with the grain. The light brown color of the rice is attributed by the presence of ‘Bran Layer’ which is rich in Vitamins, minerals and B-complex.

Steam Rice

Steam: Steam rice is a different form of rice which is produced by soaking the grains in water and then treating them with hot steam.

Raw Rice

Raw: Commonly known as “raw rice” or “white rice” it is one of the most common forms of rice and is produced by removing the outer husk of the grain, while increasing its storage life. This rice is also called regular-milled white rice.

Parboiled Rice

Parboiled: Generally parboiled/ sella is rice that has been partially boiled in the husk to increase the nutritional value of the grain.
